What’s Going on in Columbus, GA this Weekend?

Glad you asked that question!  There's always something fun going on and this weekend is no exception, so here's a quick look at just a couple of events happening.  Don't forget, if you'd like more details on these events or want to find out about others taking place, head to the Community Calendar to a complete listing.

The RiverCenter for the Performing Arts is going to be a busy place this weekend, so if you're in the mood for music or theatre, this is the place to be!  First up on Friday night (Jan. 21), legendary musician Bill Medley of the Righteous Brothers will be live in concert beginning at 7:30pm.  For years, the Righteous Brothers were a fixture on Top 40 radio with hits like "You've Lost that Loving Feeling," "Just Once in my Life," "Unchained Melody," and "You're My Soul and Inspiration." And of course in 1987, he had a monumental hit with another duettist, Jennifer Warnes, "I've had the Time of my Life."  Tickets range from $27.50-$37.50.  RiverCenter is located on Broadway in Uptown Columbus.  (706.256.3612)

Look for a couple of more shows at RiverCenter this Sunday.  One is a special performance by Stephen Cary, Professor of Voice at the University of Alabama.  He'll be doing an evening of music by Moreno, Strauss, and Puccini.  The performance will take place at 4:00pm in Legacy Hall and admission is free!

Things will really heat up at RiverCenter with "Drumline LIVE" Sunday beginning at 7:30pm.  This show-stopping attraction was created by the music team behind the 20th Century Fox's hit movie "Drumline."  The versatile 39-member cast of musicians and dancers brings explosive energy and athleticism to an eclectic mix of sounds and is keeping a historic tradition of funky dance rhythms and flamboyant style alive.  We were lucky enough to have this show come through Columbus last year and it was a sell-out, which means lots of folks weren't able to catch that one.  So get your tickets now to make sure you get a seat!  (706.256.3612)

And here's one you can really sink your teeth into…sorry, it had to be said…because it's "Dracula" at the Springer Opera House!  Twilight reveals that the lovely young Lucy Seward has been struck by a mysterious illness and her father suspects something supernatural.  He calls in a specialist—Dr. Van Helsing—who reveals that the girl is the victim of a vampire!  The culprit is discovered to be a handsome neighbor named Dracula and Van Helsing sets out to destroy him.  But the charming Dracula has other plans—plans he's been hatching for 600 years!  If you're weekend is already full, then put this on your calendar for an upcoming night out because the play will be running through February 5.  Performances begin at 7:30pm, with the exception of Sunday when the show starts at 2:30pm. Rate PG! Admission is $35.  (706.327.3688)

So let's get this weekend thing started!  Make sure you visit the Community Calendar to get updated information and to take a look at all the other events going on in and around Columbus.

Now, go have some fun…
