Springtime Fun in Columbus, GA!
Listen. Do you hear that? You have to listen carefully! Tune out the sounds of clicking computer keyboards, kids squealing, car horns honking, and bosses doing that boss thing and you just might hear the sound of the weekend calling! So after all the hard work this week, you deserve to get out and have a little fun. Here's just a couple of suggestions for you, but you should also take a couple of minutes to glance at the Community Calendar to get a real taste of what's happening this weekend.
Start your weekend off right and head to Uptown Columbus, the 1000 block of Broadway to be exact, for another in the series of Friday night concerts! Headlining this week is the 10:30 Band. Bring a lawn chair and family and enjoy a free concert under the stars!
It looks like it’s going to be a perfect day on Sunday to throw your lawn chairs and blankets in the car and find a shady spot to enjoy a day full of fun with the 16th Annual Arts in the Park at Lakebottom Park's band shell. There are lots of different musical acts on schedule—from jazz to bluegrass; tons of activities for kids to enjoy and area artists will have their works on display for show and sale. I say do up all your favorite picnic food and throw them in a basket or swing by somewhere and get a bucket of chicken—or make it really easy and grab something from one of the vendors on site! It’s just a great way to spend some time with family and friends outdoors enjoying some great art and music! Everything gets underway at noon...and there's no admission!
If you know and love the production the Springer Opera House does every year called “A Tuna Christmas,” well…you are going to go crazy over this one! Looks like the adventure continues with our friends in the third smallest town in Texas—Tuna—as a lot has happened since last Christmas! In this installment, Thurston and Bertha, who of course got married at the end of “Red, White and Tuna,” have decided to take a vacation to Vegas to renew their wedding vows and the rest of the characters from Tuna decide to show up in Sin City for their romantic getaway—and let’s just say that hilarity ensues! Two hugely talented guys, Paul Pierce and Ron Anderson, play all16 different characters in this production. This is the last weekend, so make reservations before it’s too late!
Cool stuff going on up at Callaway Gardens because they’ve just kicked off the season for the Farmer’s Market they do every Friday. All the products are produced within a 150-mile radius of Callaway and you’ll find anything from baked goods (the last time I was there, I got an organic German Chocolate cupcake made with zucchini that was unbelievably delicious!), sauces, dairy products, even flowers, plants and soaps! Plus, they have all sorts of demonstrations going on and lots of kid’s activities.
And lastly, here’s one of those events where you get to have a great time and help out a very worthy cause at the same time! It’s “Go Green for Girls, Inc.” happening this Saturday at CSU’s Woodruff Park (RiverPark Campus in Uptown). Girl’s Inc is a non-profit organization serving girls in our community and provides a safe environment for them to learn to be themselves and to become “Strong, Smart, and Bold!” This event is for the whole family and for all ages because at this “Lawn Party” they’re going to have a Volleyball Tournament, a Backyard Bocce Ball Tournament, Kid’s Zone, great food and more! You don’t have to be an expert at any of the sports…just come to have fun and maybe win some of the cash prizes they’ll be giving out! There’s even live music beginning at 3:30pm.
Take these ideas and run with them!
Now...go have some fun,
