It’s the Weekend!  Got Fun?

So, if you haven't already started making your weekend plans, what are you waiting for?!  You can get a headstart by checking out the Event Calendar--it's full of all sorts of details about things happening in and around Columbus.  And maybe I can tease you with a couple of things I've heard about that's happening this weekend.

If you want to see good theatre, go see Clybourne Park at the Liberty Theatre this weekend. A spin-off of A Raisin in the Sun, this sharp production takes a jab at race and real estate in a Chicago neighborhood. The play begins in 1959 as a black family moves into a white neighborhood and Act 2 brings you back to the same house in 2009 as gentrification sets in and the roles are reversed.  (There is some strong language that’s not suitable for kids!)  It's being performed this Friday, Saturday (2 shows) and Sunday (Feb 22-24) and admission is only $15.

Jeff Dunham launches his all new Disorderly Conduct tour in Columbus this Saturday (Feb. 23) at the Civic Center. Get ready to laugh, laugh and laugh some more as you meet his cast of characters, Walter the Grumpy Retiree, Achmed the Dead Terrorist, the beer-fueled redneck Bubba J, the manic purple creature Peanut, the spicy pepper from south of the border Jose Jalapeno, and Peanut’s own ventriloquist dummy, Little Jeff, a mini version of the ring leader himself. New York Times Magazine recently declared Jeff Dunham “the most successful comedian working in America.” With his all-star lineup of characters, you are sure to get your ab workout in for the weekend!

Speaking of a different type of comic…It’s time for the Annual Columbus Comic Book Show at the Coca-Cola Space Science Center. Shop for comics, toys, collector items and more! Admission is $4. Time is from 11am to 4pm on Sunday, February 24.

We’ll celebrate Arbor Day here in Columbus this Saturday (Feb 23)! Arbor Day is nationally observed as a day to encourage tree planting and tree care and since we’re celebrating 35 years as Georgia’s first Tree City USA, a big bash is appropriate. Bring the family out to Lakebottom Park tomorrow from 11am – 1pm. There will be fun hands-on activities, animals from Oxbow Meadows, bucket truck rides, environmental exhibits, and Country’s Barbecue will be on site selling lunch. The Urban Forest and Beautification Department will be giving out free tree seedlings so you can take them home and plant your own tree! It’s a great way to spend the day with the kids and teach them the importance of taking care of nature!

As we get closer and closer to wedding season, it’s time for all those bride-to-be’s to get serious about planning! This Sunday, the National Infantry Museum invites you to enjoy a spectacular evening of magic and romance as you prepare for your big day. Their event staff and dozens of the Southeast’s top wedding professionals will have transformed the museum into a world of fantastic color, elegant couture and succulent cuisine. You’ll meet photographers, caterers, planners, florists, and more..all who will help you to make your dream wedding come true! And earlier that day, from 1-5pm, (which works out perfectly) you can attend the Ultimate Bridal Expo at Rivermill Event Centre. $3-$5 to get in and you’ll meet more wedding professionals and enjoy free samples, food, door prizes and more!

And hopefully the weather will cooperate so we can join the staff at Providence Canyon this Saturday, February 23 from 11am to 1pm for Geology Day in the canyons. Learn how the canyons were formed as well as other history. Make sure you wear good hiking shoes and bring some water!

Don't forget to check out the Event Calendar to find more info on these events and plenty of others.

Now, go have some fun...
