“It’s Alive!”
Like a lot of folks, I sometimes wake up in the middle of the night, start thinking about stuff and then have a really tough time getting back to sleep to get those 8 hours all the experts say we need. And seriously, how many of us actually get 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep?! So one on the mind tricks I do to help relax is the old "Desert Island" game. You know, you're stranded on a desert island and you can only take 10 albums (oops, showing my age there!), 10 books, 10 tools, or 10 movies with you. My lists of music and books changes quite often, mainly depending on my mood, but the list of movies stays pretty consistent. And one movie that is always in that Top 10 is "Young Frankenstein." I remember seeing it in the theatre when it was released and I thought it was one of the funniest things I had ever, ever seen! Fast-forward all these years later, and it's held up well and always makes me laugh out loud.
So I guess that's why I'm so excited about the production going on at CSU's Riverside Theatre...you got it..."Young Frankenstein" live and on stage. This department of theatre at CSU is constantly pumping out all sorts of great productions on their stages and something tells me this one is going to be worth the price of admission. And just in case you've never seen the movie, I hear this play sticks pretty close to it so here's a quick synopsis.. you've got the grandson of the infamous Victor Frankenstein, Fredrick Frankenstein, inheriting his family's estate in Transylvania. With the help of his hunchbacked side-kick, Eye-gor (nope, it isn't EE-Gor!) and leggy lab assistant Inga, Fredrick finds himself in the mad scientist shoes of his ancestors. "It's alive!" he exclaims as he brings his creature to life. With such memorable tunes as "The Transylvania Mania," "He Vas My Boyfriend," and "Puttin' on the Ritz," Young Frankenstein is scientifically-proven, monstrously good entertainment. If you need a laugh and want to see some good theatre, treat yourself and a buddy to this one!
