The Chattahoochee Valley Libraries’ Columbus Public Library is one of 50 U.S. libraries selected to host Americans and the Holocaust, a traveling exhibition from the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum that examines the motives, pressures and fears that shaped Americans’ responses to Nazism, war and genocide in Europe during the 1930s and 1940s.

Americans and the Holocaust will be on display at the Columbus Public Library (3000 Macon Road) along with a series of related special events, from now through August 18. CELEBRATE COLUMBUS
RIVERCENTER FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS, SECOND FLOOR LOBBY
THROUGH JULY 31

Celebrate Columbus was created in partnership between RiverCenter and the Historic Columbus Foundation to honor our town’s cultural arts history, theaters, and local arts icons.

Before there was even a town, theater troupes were coming through the area.  Columbus would have six theaters by 1870 – with three being active at one time.  Each of Columbus’ theaters, from the earliest log structure to Temperance Hall, had been an acoustical, technical, and scenic improvement over its predecessor.  Then, there was the Springer Opera House, the Liberty Theatre, the Royal, and so many more.

The arts have been woven into the fabric of Columbus.  The intent for this exhibit is to move you through the timeline of local history and provide a glimpse into the development of the arts within the community.  Columbus has been very fortunate to have been the birthplace of such iconic talents as Blind Tom, Ma Rainey, Darby and Tarlton, Nunnally Johnson, Carson McCullers, and Alma Thomas.

Celebrate with us these stories, these legacies, and the history of Columbus. We invite you to view this exhibit, in its entirety, in person on the second floor of the RiverCenter for the Performing Arts at 900 Broadway in Uptown Columbus.
