Fabulous Fall Fun in Columbus, GA!
The weather is a little cooler and we finally have a bit of color on the trees and now that holiday feeling is really kicking in! Looks like a perfect weekend to get out and have some fun, so here's a tease of just a few of the highlights. Don't forget there's a great Community Calendar you can dig into to find out even more.
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas, especially at Callaway Gardens. This weekend kicks-off their Christmas light extravaganza, Fantasy in Lights. You’ll see the magic of Christmas come to life as you make your way through different holiday scenes made up of eight million lights. This is one of the worlds largest outdoor light and sound shows. In fact, I read that if you took all the strands of lights and hooked them altogether, you could outline the state of South Carolina! It’s the perfect way to get into the holiday spirit as you sing carols and sip hot cocoa. Fantasy in Lights will run through Dec 30 and you can check their website for all the details. But if you want to do something different, this Sun, Nov 21 is the March of Dimes Walk through the lights, which is really special and the only time this is open just to pedestrian traffic. Call the March of Dimes office for ticket information at 706.660.0160 or Callaway Gardens at 800.225.5292 for more details about Fantasy in Lights.
This Sunday, you’ll hear awesome and inspiring music at a benefit concert for 88.5 The Truth by Dave Barnes. His hit song ‘God Gave Me You’ has been topping the charts and is probably one of the most beautiful songs I’ve ever heard. With Dave Barnes’ wonderful voice and uplifting lyrics, you’re definitely in for a great evening of live music. This is going to be an excellent show at Calvary Baptist Church, that isn’t just a benefit concert for The Truth but is also a musical tribute to Heath Jackson. You’ll hear music by Jonathan and Lisa Moore, Garret Lee and other special guests as they pay tribute to Heath and remember and celebrate his memory and legacy. You can get advanced tickets at The Sanctuary Christian Bookstore located in The Landings. Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door.
Who can believe that next week is Thanksgiving?! So that means it's time for lots of food, lots of cooking and sometimes lots of stress. Make it easy on yourself by going to Market Days on Broadway this Saturday from 9:00am-12:00pm to get fresh produce and yummy baked goods. I've got my eye on a caramel cake that will fit perfectly on one of my serving platters! 😊 Nobody has to know….
In honor of the much-anticipated release of the next Harry Potter film, the Columbus Public Library (Macon Road) began showing the first 6 movies this week. The last 3 in the sequence are playing this weekend, along with some other pretty cool activities. On Saturday at 10:30am, they’ll show Harry Potter & the Goblet of Fire & at 3:00pm they’ll show Harry Potter & the Order of the Phoenix. But at 1:00pm there will be a scavenger hunt in the library with the clues based on the books. People can compete individually or in groups of up to 5 people. The grand prize winner will get a Wii console & Harry Potter Lego game. On Sunday, the library will show Harry Potter & the Half-Blood Prince at 3:00pm. All of these movies & activities are completely free and open to the public.
This part of the country loves the SEC and although this isn’t football, it’s still a good opportunity to support those college teams we all love. The College Hockey Clash is happening at the Civic Center this weekend, with SEC teams battling it out on the ice and some Columbus Cottonmouths action thrown into the mix as well. On Saturday, it’s Alabama v. Clemson at 2pm, Cottonmouths v. Pensacola at 5:00pm & Georgia v. Georgia Tech at 8:00pm. On Sunday, Clemson will play Georgia Tech at 3:00pm & Georgia will play Alabama at 6:00pm. There’s just no telling what will happen when 2 SEC teams are pitted against each other. Tickets range from $12 to $28 & tickets are good for all the games each day.
So maybe this will help get you started on making some plans for some serious weekend excitement. There's lots more details and other events listed on the Community Calendar , so give it a once-over.
Now, go have some fun…
