Big Weekend Fun in Columbus, GA!

Life can't be all bad when there's a weekend coming up chocked full of fun things to do! Here's a quick sample of some of the things going on and remember, you can always take a look at the Community Calendar to find out more about these events and others happening in and around Columbus, GA.

Here’s another good reason to get out and enjoy some Spring weather this weekend with the 14th Annual Arts in the Park at Lakebottom Park! It’s this Sunday from noon-6:00pm and they’ll have all sorts of artists set up with works for show & sale, lots of live music and outdoor fun for kids-even pony rides! I remember my grandmother telling me stories of how Lakebottom Park once really was a lake and there were boats, twinkling white lights, willow trees and Sunday afternoon concerts…well, the look of the park has evolved over the years, but it’s still a great place for the family to gather and enjoy events like Arts in the Park! Don’t forget the picnic basket or check out some of the vendors on hand with food & drink. Admission is free. Most of the activity takes place near the band shell in the Park (near 18th Ave & 13th St.) 706.327.9533 www.columbusartsinthepark.com

If you’re in the mood…or in need…for something funny this weekend, then head to the Springer Opera House and take in their production of “The Complete History of America (abridged).” Everybody I know who’s already been to see this says it is one of the funniest shows they’ve ever seen at the Springer. It truly is just what the title says…it goes all the way back 600 years ago to the days of Amerigo Vespucci to things that happened just a few weeks ago! And everything and everybody is fair game…conserative, liberal, and everything in between! This show is a smart, slick, informative, happy and hilarious rampage through this country’s history. If History 101 would have been this fun, I might have stayed awake during class! Tickets are $35 and performances will be held this weekend and next weekend at 7:30pm and there is one matinee this Sunday (May 16) at 2:30pm. 706.327.3688 www.springeroperahouse.org

Big kids and little kids will love the show going on at the Columbus Civic Center because all of our favorite Disney friends will be there with "Disney on Ice—Let's Celebrate!" Show dates are May 13-16 and tickets range from $17-$40. 800.745.3000 www.disneyonice.com

Here’s something that has been so popular, it’s going into its third series! Following the success of numbers one & two, the Liberty Theatre (821 8th Ave) is showcasing a new production called “I Got the Music in Me 3” and it has all sorts of high energy singing and dancing and includes some of the most popular tunes covering the last 5 decades of music! You’ll hear anything from Natalie Cole, The Temptations, Elvis Presley, Hannah Montana, Beyonce, and Earth, Wind & Fire. Performances will be held Friday and Saturday at 8:00pm and there's also a matinee on Sunday at 3:00pm. Admission is $15 for Adults, $13 for Seniors, Students & Military, and $10 for ages 12 & under. 706.393.1056

Let the spirit move you…literally…this Friday-Sunday nights when you go on this walking tour…”Walk with the Shadows!” You may not realize it, but Columbus is quickly becoming known as a hot-spot for paranormal activities! It’s a mile and a half, lantern-lit, walking tour in the Original Historic District and you’ll hear all sorts of “goose-bumpy” stories about haunted houses, ghosts, legends and murder mysteries right here in our very own town! This is great for all ages, just make sure you wear comfortable walking shoes and bring the bug spray with you. By the way, the same tour company, Southern Odysseys, also does a tour specifically for kids you might want to check out also…could be a fun idea for a birthday party! Meet your ghoulish-guide at the Marriott Hotel in Uptown Columbus (corner of 9th St & Front Ave) at 8:00pm each night. Cost is only $13 (cash only). 706.225.8888

And, the music continues Friday night in the 1100 block of Broadway with more in the Uptown Friday Night Concert Series with the band Theatrics. 7:00-10:00pm FREE! (706) 596.0111 www.uptowncolumbusga.com

Make sure you check out the Community Calendar for more ideas on things to see and do.

Go have some fun,
